This month marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark piece of legislation in the United States. Since its passage, significant progress has been made in creating more accessible built environments, but the work is far from over. 

As conversations around disability and access evolve, design continues to advance beyond the minimum requirements of the ADA to create more inclusive, accessible spaces.

In the spirit of this ongoing work, Schuler Shook Theatre Planner Benjamin Grohs assembled 10 Must-Know Accessibility Essentials for Performing Arts Centers” as a practical introduction to inclusive, accessible design, and to share some of the considerations we prioritize in our theatre planning work.
