Duane Schuler's Lighting Adds Thrills to "The Sound of Music"

News – May 2014

Duane Schuler designed the lighting for the highly successful production of The Sound of Music currently playing at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The Chicago Tribunes review has this to say: Scenes in those cloisters include a wedding pastiche quite thrilling in its spectacle, thanks in no small part to the lighting of Duane Schuler and the grand, yet somehow breathable, costumes of Alejo Vietti.”

This is a new production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, directed by Marc Bruni and starring Billy Zane as Captain von Trapp, Jenn Gambatese as Maria, and Edward Hibbert as Max Detweiler. Reknowned opera stars Christine Brewer and Elizabeth Futral perform the roles of the Mother Abbess and Elsa Schraeder respectively.
