Schuler Shook Gathers for "The Exchange"

Firm News – May 2026

Sixty-seven professionals. Practices from five US cities and Melbourne, Australia. One retreat centre. In early May, the entire firm met in the Chicago area for our three-day gathering we’ve named “The Exchange.”

The event is planned to share the wisdom of each Schuler Shook office and to deepen the practice among all our designers and staff.

Some notable events at The Exchange included:

A keynote from Mark Sexton of Krueck Sexton Partners, highlighting his architectural practice’s formation, his love of dynamically lit surfaces, and many of the projects he has designed with Schuler Shook
Over 30 sessions addressing the entire firm or focused on our specialties
Time spent with our Founders to hear the origin story
A presentation and exercise from Deborah Biddle of The People Company Consulting Group, helping us to be design advocates for those whose voices may not be heard
Case studies to dig into project details and techniques
A mockup to study integrated solutions for stage catwalk design, including systems offering full accessibility
Sharing our work in Slide Slams – 60 seconds per project!
Lively meals, a trivia night, and plenty of chatting over drinks of all kinds

We left The Exchange with expanded knowledge and awareness, a reminder of the breadth of our work, and most importantly, greater appreciation of one another. The Exchange gives us insights like no other. We’ll keep it going with online “Mini-Exchange” sessions and will look forward to our next time together.
