Schuler Shook is proud to announce that its lighting design teams received nine Awards of Merit from the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) for their lighting work on project types that include hospitality, higher education, plazas, theatres, outdoor venues and offices.

Dallas, Texas
IES Award of Excellence
Lighting Design Team: Robert Shook, FIALD; Maureen Mahr, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Jennifer Curtis; Kimberley Corbett-Oates, ASTC; and Jefferey Knox, IES. Schuler Shook’s lighting design met the goal of creating an innovative lighting design that welcomes visitors to the gateway of the Arts District and blends light and art within the theatre itself.

IES Award of Merit
Lighting Design Team: Jim Baney, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Emily Klingensmith, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; John Jacobsen, Jr. Assoc. IALD, IES, LC; and Eric Sisco. The lighting design met the budget and surpassed efficiency standards. Light levels carefully tuned to occupant preferences provided significant energy savings, consuming only 0.67 W/ft2 overall – 38% below ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1 – 2007 allowances.

As the lighting designers noted in their submission, “The lighting design features environmentally-sensitive strategies such as maximizing the use of daylight, utilizing energy-efficient, low-mercury content sources, and controlling fixtures via a digital dimming system.” This project combines aesthetics and efficiency in the lighting design.

As the sun fades and the evening progresses, automated lighting controls seamlessly add a splash of excitement and dramatic flair to transform the hotel’s lobby, restaurant, bar, pool, meeting rooms, ballrooms and pre-function areas with shades of electric blue.
Radisson Blu — Warwick Hotel

This iconic historic hotel is new again, merging contemporary sophistication with a bold new look. The lighting design is playful, sometimes highlighting interesting accents while other times being the highlight. An astronomical time clock dimming control system provides automated energy savings control and gradual time of day transition settings for all interior and exterior public space lighting.
RiverEdge Park

RiverEdge Park is a new music garden where art meets nature. Programmable, colour-changing lighting is integrated into the architecture of the live theatre and music pavilion, allowing for a range of effects and adding energy to the performance space.
Saenger Theatre
New Orleans, Louisiana

Lighting Design Team: Michael DiBlasi, IALD, IES and Julia Gordon, IES.
Devastated by Hurricane Katrina, the renovation of this historic theatre included refurbishing existing historical fixtures and replicating missing fixtures with updated conveniences to allow for easy relamping and low maintenance. The lighting design provided creative and kinetic solutions with increased energy savings and stunning results. Schuler Shook also provided all of the Theatre Planning for the venue which now hosts many Broadway and music performances.
