Promotions, New Team Members

Firm News – Oct 2018

The talented people of Schuler Shook continue to raise the bar for creativity, innovation and service to our clients. We are proud to recognize and celebrate three recent promotions of designers who exemplify these qualities and introduce our newest team members. All are consummate professionals who are fun to work with and demonstrate leadership through example.

Kevin Greene
Theatre Consultant

Kevin moves into the Theatre Consultant role in Schuler Shook’s Chicago office. He excelled in stage production work On- and Off-Broadway for nearly two decades before joining Schuler Shook as a Theatre Specialist in 2012. His experience in using theatre buildings has greatly informed his consulting work and his fine collaboration with clients. Kevin is a font of ideas with a can do” attitude and the technical acumen to bring those concepts to life. When not consulting on performance spaces, he has been known to get out on the dance floor as a swing dancer and instructor.

Kevin’s projects include major international schools, the University of Wyoming’s Fine Arts Center, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Otto M. Budig Theatre, and the new home for DePaul University’s School of Music.

Jason Burton
Theatre Consultant

Recently promoted to Theatre Consultant in Schuler Shook’s Minneapolis office, Jason’s connection to opera and regional and professional theatre has provided him with a deep understanding of the changing needs of our clients. This, along with his adaptability, creativity, and his experience in theatre design allows him to provide innovative solutions for Schuler Shook clients and projects. Jason enjoys cooking and spending time with his wife, daughter and two dogs. He is also building a wood shop – the dream of many a tech theatre person!

Jason’s notable projects include Manhattan School of Music in New York, Macalester Theatre at Macalester College in St. Paul, and Emerson Colonial Theatre which recently opened in Boston.

Mike Libby
Lighting Designer

Mike recently joined the Minneapolis office of Schuler Shook from Madison, WI, where he was Director of Lighting Design at a prominent architecture/engineering firm. His electrical engineering background affords a technical understanding of lighting and controls. Mike’s appreciation for the ways light impacts our interpretation and understanding of the world is enhanced by his work as a photographer and videographer. Outside of work, most of Mike’s free time is spent with his young family and fixing things around the house.

Mike’s recent projects include Minneapolis St. Paul Airport, St. Paul, MN; OK POP, Tulsa, OK; Southeast Library, Minneapolis, MN; and Alberta Bair Theatre, Billings, MT.

Samuel Butler
Specialist

Samuel joins our Melbourne office, bringing an extremely well-rounded skill set to his role as Specialist. He has an advanced diploma of building design from RMIT University and is an excellent CAD and Revit draftsperson.

Samuel is originally from the Gold Coast (think beautiful sandy beaches), was once stung by a jellyfish, and now prefers the city to a beach of any kind. He has a great love of musical theatre, and his favorites include Lion King and Book of Mormon.

Most recently, he has been working on Arts Centre Melbourne: State Theatre Fly System & Master Plan, University of Melbourne Student Union, and Victorian Pride Centre Lighting Project in Melbourne.

Alex Peck
Theatre and Lighting Specialist

Previously an intern in the Minneapolis office, Alex returns full-time after completing his MFA in lighting design at the California Institute of the Arts (Calarts). Now with experience in theatre and live entertainment and extensive studies in Fine Arts, Installation, and Immersive Lighting, he turns his focus and multi-disciplinary knowledge to architecture. For Alex, lighting was positive phototropism at first sight.

Alex’s project collaborations include Cort Theatre, New York, NY; Truman Library, Independence, MO; The Confluence Arts Center, Eau Claire, WI; and Liberty Theatre, Astoria, OR.
