Robert Shook Receives Ohio University Medal of Merit

Ohio University bestowed the Medal of Merit on Robert Shook, ASTC, FIALD, at the Alumni Association Gala October 9th. Bob and two other alumni received the Medal of Merit for significant contributions to their fields of work and study.

The medal recognizes Bob’s achievements as an award-winning professional theatrical designer and founding partner of Schuler Shook, an internationally-recognized theatre planning and architectural lighting design firm.

Bob’s lighting designs include several Chicago landmarks: Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Calder Flamingo” sculpture in Federal Plaza, and the Palmolive Building. His theatre planning projects include the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Chicago, IL; Arts Centre Melbourne, Melbourne, VIC, Australia; David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, New York, NY; Dallas City Performance Hall, Dallas, TX; University of Chicago’s Logan Center, Chicago, IL; and DePaul University’s new building for The Theatre School, Chicago, IL.

A highly regarded theatre consultant and designer, Bob is also committed to educating others in the fields of theatre planning and architectural lighting design. He teaches master classes on the Athens Campus of OU and regularly presents at professional conferences. He is featured in the stage lighting textbooks, Scene Design and Stage Lighting and also Stage Lighting: Foundations and Applications.

While on campus, Bob participated in two discussion sessions with theatre students about trends in theatre design and technology. Bob received his MFA in Theatre Production Design from Ohio University.
