The stairway lighting is interactive with people traveling the stairs and connecting to the variety of spaces within the library.
Cedar Rapids Public Library
Cedar Rapids, IA
This new LEED Platinum, 95,000 square foot facility replaced the old library swept away in Cedar Rapids’ 2008 flood.
Schuler Shook provided lighting design for the lobby, reading room, stairway, auditorium, and building facade, as well as the theatre planning for the auditorium.
The bright, open and engaging library contains both day and evening lighting elements to support the cohesive design.
The library has a multi-use auditorium with an upstage glass wall for views in and out, as well as a darkening system for performances.
