One of the main features of the new offices is a continuous corridor that wraps the building core and provides a canvas for displaying the extensive art collection. Schuler Shook worked with Perkins+Will to design a custom ceiling slot that provides soft, ambient light for circulation, plus museum-quality accent light for the art.
Confidential Company
Chicago, IL
This realty company re-located to a 20,000 square-foot office space in a high-rise along the Chicago River. Schuler Shook designed the lighting for the new space, including the reception area, elevator lobby, open offices, executive offices, dining room, conference rooms, and corridors. The design team established a minimalist aesthetic which integrated lighting with the architecture, providing a focus on the client’s large collection of artwork.
Schuler Shook closely examined the sustainability of light sources used. Fixtures that typically use halogen lamps – such as dimmable downlights and artwork accent lights – instead utilize high colour-rendering LED modules and ceramic metal halide lamps. Linear uplights in the corridor ceiling slot and elevator lobby utilize low-wattage LEDs to reduce energy consumption and minimize maintenance and re-lamping.
