The Detroit School of Arts is the city's showcase for the teaching and performance of theatre, music, and broadcast communications. This $122 million project opened in 2005, adjacent to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall, and serves grades 9-12 in general education and performance training.
The LEED Certified school includes many performance and production spaces, including a multi-purpose theatre, a flexible "black box" theatre, a recital hall, two television production studios and a full complement of workshops and dressing rooms. Students spend their mornings in academic classes, and afternoons are filled with rehearsals, coachings and production work.
