Lakewood Welcome Center

Minneapolis, MN

The project was designed to offer a tranquil environment for grieving families, aiming for a more residential feel than a typical office building.

An emphasis was put on daylighting and a visual connection to the landscape. The lighting was intentionally kept simple. Discrete recessed fixtures were employed for general lighting and to illuminate the wood walls that surround the first level.

Pendants cascade thru the double height spaces to catch the sunlight during the day and illuminate the space at night. Egg shaped pendants and floor lamps illuminate the conference rooms and seating areas.

At the exterior, blending into the 250 acres of urban memorial parkland was a key component of the design. Uplights mounted to the columns illuminate the ceiling of the colonnade, bouncing light off the ceiling to the exterior stone walls.
