The American International School of Muscat

Muscat, Sultanate of Oman

The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) currently enrolls 765 students representing 65 nationalities. At the heart of the school is a new 522-seat multi-purpose theatre, The Bosch Center for the Performing Arts.

The Center serves both as a concert hall for musical performance, with a particular focus on acoustics, and easily converts for dramatic productions. The Bosch Center is used for both student performances and events open to the wider Muscat community.

Schuler Shook provided theatre planning services and influenced the overall room design and shaping in conjunction with the Architect and Acoustical Consultant. Additionally, Schuler shook provided seating layout, architectural lighting, and theatrical lighting and rigging systems design. The stage lighting system works in conjunction with motorised rigging support for an easy to maintain, operate, and versatile performance space.

The Bosch Center incorporates many local influences from the culture of Oman with modern details. The interior’s finishes are comprised of wood, stone, fabric, and glass to give a visual homage to the local sea and fishing craft common to the area. The richness of these finishes brings a warmth to an intimate performance space.
