Paul Whitaker, Newest Partner at Schuler Shook

Firm News – Feb 2024

Schuler Shook is pleased to announce Paul Whitaker, LEED AP, WELL AP, as a Partner. Paul’s talents are appreciated in both architectural lighting design and theatre consulting, two practices he has engaged in for over 20 years.

Storytelling is what interests me the most in performance and illumination projects. Only by understanding our client’s character and the stories they want to tell can we create tailor-made solutions that truly meet their current needs and future aspirations. Whether that’s using light to enhance or craft a space, or by providing artists with the venue and the tools they need, I am driven by the stories.”

Paul Whitaker, Partner

Paul’s work as a theatrical designer and educator greatly influences his work as a theatre consultant, offering him a deep and personal understanding of his clients’ needs relative to the design and renovation of performance spaces. As an architectural lighting designer, Paul’s production work and experience with LEED and WELL gives him a unique ability to provide lighting designs that are both dramatic and sustainable.

Our clients recognize that Paul brings exceptional talent and knowledge to every project. His ongoing work as a theatrical lighting and scenic designer informs his work at Schuler Shook, combining a strong artistic vision with a broad understanding of the technology that supports his designs,” said Michael DiBlasi, ASTC, Partner.

Paul’s architectural lighting projects include the James Earl Jones Theatre, Cincinnati Music Hall, Target Field Station, The Woody Guthrie Center, and The Truman Presidential Library. Select theatre consulting projects include the USITT award-winning Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center at Macalester College, The Weitz Center at Carleton College, the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C., and the Palace Theatre in St. Paul.

Paul continues to design lighting and scenery for theatre and opera productions across the country. Recent production credits include productions at La Jolla Playhouse, The Denver Center, The Children’s Theatre, Chicago Opera Theatre, and The San Diego Opera.
