Schuler Shook's Lighting Designs Garner IES Illumination Awards

News – Aug 2018

The IES bestowed on Schuler Shook three Illumination Awards of Merit for lighting designs that highlight deftness and skill with interior and exterior projects.

Hyatt Global Headquarters, Chicago, Illinois
IES Award of Merit
Lighting Design Team: Emily Klingensmith, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; John Jacobsen, IES, LC; Jess Baker, IES Associate EP

The lighting design for this hotel-like office project emphasizes touch points from the hotel experience: arrival, social spaces, food and beverage, meetings and events, guest rooms (or workspace), and departure.

Loyola University Quinlan School of Business — John and Kathy Schreiber Center, Chicago, Illinois
IES Award of Merit
Lighting Design Team: Jim Baney, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Giulio Pedota, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Grant Kightlinger.

The 10-story atrium of this mixed-use building allows for abundant daylight to reach interior spaces. The 120-foot stone interior wall, visible from the exterior, provided a perfect accent for illumination. The lighting team tested multiple solutions to achieve smooth, uninterrupted lighting.

Architect: Solomon Cordwell Buenz

Municipal Building Clock Tower, Minneapolis, Minnesota
IES Award of Merit
Lighting Design Team: Michael White, IES, LC, EDAC, LEED AP

A new lighting design for the clock tower restores each clock face to the 1900’s design intent. The tower is the largest four-faced, chiming clock in the world. Theatrical lighting techniques were used to bounce and reflect light inside the tower to evenly wash and back-light each clock face.
