Schuler Shook Lighting Projects Receive IES and Illumni Infinity Awards

News – May 2013

The design skills and creativity of Schuler Shook’s lighting designers were recognized with multiple awards this year from the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and Illumni.

The IES bestowed awards on two Schuler Shook lighting design projects this year:

LD IALD Headquarters IALD 01 2
LD Hilton Chicago AGA H Ilton 720 Lounge 05 RET 1

IALD Headquarters, Chicago, Illinois: IES Regional Illumination Design Award. Lighting Design Team: Robert Shook, IALD, IES, LC; Emily Klingensmith, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Grant Kightlinger, Lighting Designer. Schuler Shook’s lighting design met the goal of creating an innovative lighting design that supports IALD members’ principles of integrating natural and electric light for healthy workspaces.

Hilton Chicago, Chicago, Illinois: IES Regional Illumination Design Award. Lighting Design Team: Jim Baney, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Giulio Pedota, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Miory Kanashiro, LC, LEED AP. Schuler Shook provided lighting design services on this fast-tracked project at the historic Hilton Chicago. The hotel’s restaurant, the bar/lounge area, and the grab-and-go retail space were renovated or entirely reconcepted, requiring new lighting designs as part of the brand and ambience for each of the three food and beverage areas. Lighting designers worked closely with Aria Group Architects to incorporate the lighting in a seamless fashion, while adhering to very limiting budgets and codes.

Schuler Shook also received two Illumni Infinity Awards. Illumni — the Australian-based online publication and creative outlet for all things lighting – holds awards competitions worldwide with an international jury from Europe, Asia, Australia and The Americas. The Infinity Awards go to projects that successfully meld creativity with technical excellence. We were honored to receive two of the six awards that went to The Americas region. The winners were announced at an awards party in New York in May.

Lighting Design Team: Jim Baney, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Maureen Mahr, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Jennifer Curtis; and Kanis Glaewketgarn. The standards and aesthetics of corporate architecture were re-examined, and nature-inspired elements establish a visual flow. Lighting throughout these elements supports the client’s goal of creating an environment that invests in their employees’ well-being.

University of Illinois at Chicago, Richard J. Daley Library, received the Silver Infinity Award for Civic Lighting. Lighting Design Team: Emily Klingensmith, IALD, IES, LC, LEED AP; Miory Kanashiro, LC, LEED AP; Kanis Glaewketgarn; and Lindsay Jonkers.
