Carleton College, Weitz Center for Creativity

Northfield, MN

The Kracum Performance Hall is at the centre of the Music and Performance Commons addition to Weitz Center for Creativity. This 400-seat technically advanced hall was designed with flexibility, accommodating a full range of concerts, diverse music ensembles, dance recitals, and theatrical performances with minimal effort to modify the performance space.

The hall is equipped with motorised acoustic ceiling reflectors. The lower half of the side walls rotate open to create traditional wings for dance and theatrical performance.

Portable acoustic towers roll out to accommodate smaller ensembles. Motorized acoustic curtains wrap the space, allowing music directors to change the acoustics of the room with a push of a button.

An acoustically transparent visual surround, composed of wood panels and metal mesh, is illuminated with concealed linear colour changing LED strips that allow the space to completely transform. Three catwalks, colour changing lighting, and a state of the art theatrical lighting control system allow for theatrical possibilities rarely seen in a concert hall.
