Iowa State Capitol

Built between 1871 and 1886, the Iowa State Capitol is an impressive Iowa landmark. The 1.4 million gross square foot building features a large golden dome, towering 275 feet above the ground floor. The exterior of this large dome is gilded with 100 troy ounces of 23-karat gold leaf.

Schuler Shook provided lighting design services for this historic structure. The lighting was carefully integrated with the architectural details and provides increased lighting levels and energy efficient sources. The lighting design enhances the architecture through the use of historic fixtures and accent lighting.
