Schuler Shook worked closely with ARM architects to integrate theatre functionality into the building fabric and to design the stage equipment systems including all AV systems, an orchestra lift and motorised stage rigging.
St. Leonard's College
Melbourne, VIC
One of Melbourne’s premiere private schools, St. Leonard’s College offers extraordinary facilities to match its academic status. These facilities now include the Leonardian, a 600-seat performing arts centre, and the Merton, a new state-of-the-art classroom building.
We designed the interior architectural lighting which received a DALI award for best medium indoor project.
The Leonardian is a multi-purpose concert hall designed to deliver exceptional acoustics for orchestra performance but with the flexibility to allow the room to be quickly changed over for dramatic performance, meetings, and other school activities.
At the heart of the stage design is a custom orchestra shell that includes movable walls and ceiling elements that seamlessly blend with the auditorium design. These elements include stage machinery that allows the school to change the stage from acoustic performance mode to dramatic or meeting mode in under 30 minutes.
The Merton building is a three level facility and includes multiple classrooms, meeting spaces, offices, and a canteen. Schuler Shook provided the AV designs for the facility including paging, video, and sound systems.
