A new, state-of-the-art dimming and control system was installed and new lighting fixtures were selected. The audio and lighting control area at the main floor were expanded and a new follow-spot/projection room was constructed at the rear of the balcony.
The Lerner Theatre
Elkhart, IN
The Lerner Theatre, formerly the ELCO Theatre, was restored to its former 1924 glory. Schuler Shook was involved with the pre-design study and the resulting renovation that began in 2009.
The renovation included an expanded stage and support facilities. The orchestra level floor was modified to improve sight lines and ADA access. Structural challenges were overcome in the basement to allow an automated orchestra pit lift to be installed.
The counterweight rigging system was relocated from stage right to stage left to accommodate a new loading dock and freight elevator. Infrastructure was included to allow an orchestra shell to be added in the future. LED light sources were used to relight the house.
